Despite rally, Illini bounced from NCAA tourney

Just like that, it's over. And with a resounding thud.
Hoping to put an exclamation point on what had started out as a question-mark season, Illinois did the inexplicable. It barely showed up, and was basically overwhelmed in a 76-72 loss to Western Kentucky on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Down 70-55 with 3 1/2 minutes to go, the Illini put on a late charge. That salvaged some pride. But it was too little, too late.
