Give the kid this much credit, at least. Miami's newest sports star had been a Dolphin for about, oh, five minutes Saturday, and already he led the league in confidence.
Expectations? This was no time for rookie modesty, apparently.
''My expectations are to be player of the year in the National Football League,'' Vontae Davis said over a background din of cheering and partying.
The Dolphins made Davis, a cornerback from the University of Illinois, the club's latest first-round selection in the NFL Draft, the 25th overall pick Saturday. He celebrated with about 100 family members and friends at a restaurant in his hometown of Washington, D.C., while, back in South Florida, Dolfans avidly chewed over the choice, debating its merits.
