On the mend, Mike Davis has high hopes

UI teammates witnessed his drive in person, at the team's practice facility, and he had the look of a Big Ten Player of the Year candidate in 2009-10.

"I still can be," he countered.

Only a broken left ankle - "The first injury of my life probably," he said - has sidelined Davis for the time being. He described the injury as "a minor break" and said doctors informed him it is a better scenario than a severe sprain. He's off crutches and the left ankle is in a black walking boot. Davis said early estimates have him back on the court in about five weeks.
