DJ Richardson reflects on first Illini offseason

"It's like I always say, the next Dee Brown, Luther and Deron," Richardson said Monday. "This is where it's going to be at; it starts right here. If we're going to say we're going to be them, when we play against them we've got to show (well) and bring our intensity and play hard."

Though he's confident, Richardson never has come off as arrogant. But he has the moxie, the ability and, most important, the Energizer work ethic that makes you take notice of his words.

"I remember the first time I went with Wayne (McClain) to watch him, right away, he's picking guys up and guarding them fullcourt in a pickup game. Nobody ever does that," coach Bruce Weber said Monday. "So you kind of felt good about that."
