Donsay Hardeman relies on discipline in return from neck injury

Ohio State running back Chris Wells hurdled Illinois safety Donsay Hardeman in a Big Ten Conference game in Memorial Stadium last November. Yet Hardeman's father calls the miss a blessing that may have saved his son rather than a curse.

Hardeman didn't endure another big collision. As it was, Hardeman left the game with the Buckeyes with neck pain and didn't play in the season's final game. He underwent surgery to repair cracked vertebrae in late November.

"I thank God that Beanie Wells jumped over him,'' said James Hardeman, Donsay's father. "You never know how the next hit may have impacted his life. The next impact could have possibly been devastating.''
