Clay Nurse: Late starter shows promise for Illini

Growing up in the capital of Georgetown, Nurse dabbled in soccer and basketball and caught glimpses of the NFL on TV. But the Illinois defensive end loved and played cricket for as long as he can remember.
"Put it this way," he said. "Every single kid growing up played cricket -- girls and boys. It's something everybody did."
When Nurse moved with his family to Maryland for his sophomore year of high school, life and sports changed dramatically. The biggest transformation began the day a coach stopped him in the cafeteria and asked if he played football.
