A fresh look for Illini basketball

Strip away all the extras that are supposed to add flash and sass to the "Illini Madness" night that commemorates the official start of basketball practice and two very significant factors remained.
One, Illini freshman D.J. Richardson and his first-year co-horts Brandon Paul, Tyler Griffey and Joseph Bertrand are the real deal. Richardson led an intrasquad scrimmage in scoring with 19 points.
And, two, junior Demetri McCamey showed that this weight loss and stepped-up conditioning program truly have produced a more explosive point guard. He added 15 points in the scrimmage and attacked the basket in a way fans haven't seen before.
