This isn't an intense Illinois team

Update: This IS an intense Illinois team!

Players move on from losses quicker than coaches. They have a shorter memory. I know Demetri McCamey, for one, is really looking forward to tonight's game. Doesn't mean he'll play well, but he's fired up for this one.

To answer your question, this isn't an intense Illinois team. There's a fire missing. I wrote a good story on that subject on HQ today.

Compare the Vegas experience to the South Padre experience last season. Both tournaments featured four close games for Illinois. Hobbling around on a leg bruise - he told me two hours before the Tulsa game that he didn't think he would play - Chester Frazier led them to a pair of narrow wins. But in Las Vegas, no one took over in winning time. It's a simple difference, but it's a big difference.
