Illinois knew a friendly schedule offered a good chance at an early run in Big Ten play, and the Illini are one win away from a 4-0 start against the Big Ten Conference's bottom half.
After victories over Northwestern, Iowa and Indiana, Illinois (11-5 overall, 3-0 in the Big Ten) hosts Penn State (8-7, 0-3) in Assembly Hall Tuesday (8 p.m., BTN). The Illini are tied for the Big Ten lead.
"We talked about being able to compete with the titans of the Big Ten -- Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin," said Illini forward Bill Cole. "If we want to compete with them, we have to get off to a good start with the teams we play."
