Gregory and Fabrizius return to Illinois
March 24, 2010 4:35 PM
Looks like there's going to be a serious uptick in southbound traffic on I-57 this afternoon. Mount Prospect native Brian Gregory and Arlington Heights resident Luke Fabrizius are drawing a big suburb-based crowd for today's NIT quarterfinal between Dayton and Illinois (8 p.m., ESPN2) in Champaign.
Gregory is in his seventh year as the Flyers' head coach while Fabrizius, a 6-foot-9 sophomore forward from Hersey High School, plays a crucial role off the bench as Dayton's best shooter.
The Flyers also boast Proviso East alum Mickey Perry on their roster -- and Thornton's Josh Parker and Simeon's Brandon Spearman join the active list next year -- so Gregory continues to mine his strong Illinois roots. Heck, he still retains a distinctive Chicago accent more than 10 years after his last job within the state.
