Dayton flies past Illini
March 25, 2010 8:06 AM
Dayton was by far the quicker, more aggressive, more physical team and they used that to their advantage nearly from start to finish. Only late, when an Illini press forced Dayton into some turnovers and hurried shots, did Illinois made a run. But it was too little, too late on a night when the Illini needed to have a hot shooting hand and instead shot 37.7 percent for the game including 6-for-26 (23.1 percent) from 3-point range.
Rarely did the Illini look comfortable. Dayton did an excellent job swarming Demetri McCamey, who was at his best when he passed the ball (10 assists) but not at his best when he felt compelled to shoot it (6-for-19). From his point of view, I'm sure it looked as though none of his teammates were in an offensive comfort zone, either.
