As for Guenther, while I've had it up to here with the guy, I think he's EXACTLY what the UI admin wants. He runs a tight, clean ship, and he does it cheaply. He manages to keep the athletic dept. in the black by being fiscally conservative. Illinois is middle-of-the-pack on a pauper's budget. That suits the University honchos just fine. He knows how his bread is buttered. And, unfortunately, after he's gone, the climate won't change anytime soon. In fact, it could very well get worse if his replacement isn't as adept at fashioning at least a little something out of next to nothing.
