A marathon

Recruiting is like running a marathon. Some people aren't cut out for the long endurance. Both Shaw and Randle require a long-term effort. It's understandable that some fans get worn down, annoyed that a decision isn't made, dislike that other schools are being considered, and write off players as fickle or self-centered. Those feelings don't win recruiting battles. Illinois will be in these two recruitment battles until the end, and if we don't get either player it's not because we have an inferior program or for lack of effort. These kids have their own priorities, and whether or not they make sense to us doesn't matter. From everything we can tell, Weber is making an all out effort to get Randle and Shaw. We shouldn't give up on either player until it's clear they cut us, or we no longer want them. Neither thing has happened, so full speed ahead.
