Illini-Mizzou: Eight observations

1. I can't believe we beat the spread and held Missou to only 23 points (should have been less if we hadn't given up so many TO's). That is a real testament to Koenning's coaching.
2. Our run game is going to be what saves us offensively, no question about it.
3. Our O-line dominated for most of the first half, but it appears they either got tired or Missou just figured something out in the second half because we couldn't get nearly as much going.
4. Liuget and Nurse are going to be good NFL players someday. Especially Liuget. 5. Scheelhaase REALLY needs to hit the weights, because his arm strength is the main thing holding him back. If not for some of those floaty passes, at least two of those INT's wouldn't have happened.
6. But damn that kid can run! I wish he would have done more of that in the second half. There were times he stayed in the pocket when I thought he should have rolled out or ran through an open lane up the middle.
7. Basically it was those INT's that killed us. Especially that last one. Poor play call and bad throw by Nathan. We were running it down their throat again and were already in scoring position but Nathan just threw it behind Jenkins and the S was all over it. That sealed it.
8. This was the first game, and Nathan's first ever start. He'll get stronger and better. Once Hawthorne is back we will be better. These offenses and defenses are still learning. The main thing is we hung with Missou, who will be a bowl team again and might win 9 games this season. With improvement this team can be pretty decent THIS season and maybe even win the 6 games some of us were hoping. A lot of questions were answered today, and the answers IMO were mostly positive.
