Smith coaches Illini RBs from QB's view

"I was a quarterback and I'm teaching knowledge of the game as a whole," Smith said. "I'm having them understand from a quarterback's perspective so it makes it easy for them to understand blocking and protection. Anywhere I've been, the running backs weren't taught like that. They knew their plays but didn't understand the whole picture."
