Two wins at the Garden wouldn't vault Illinois to No. 1, but it would confirm Weber's belief these Illini can compete with some of the nation's best.
Illinois rolled past UC Irvine (79-65), Toledo (84-45) and SIU (85-65). That's great and all, but there's a lingering taste from seasons past, where early blowouts proved to be smoke and mirrors in the long run.
"The past couple seasons we've been blowing teams out early. Then we have let-offs after a couple games," senior Mike Davis said. "We have to show we've made steps since last year and go out there and win."
