Illinois' game Saturday at Western Michigan is part of the football deal in which the Illini traveled to Detroit to play the Broncos in 2008 and Western Michigan returns the game in Champaign next fall. The basketball teams played in Champaign last season.
Though not officially written in the contract, Illinois athletic director Ron Guenther and Western Michigan AD Kathy Beauregard agreed to stage a basketball game in Kalamazoo.
"It was a handshake agreement," Guenther said at halftime on the Illini Sports Network. "They desperately wanted a basketball game and I went to Bruce and no one's really excited to go up and play that game."
