Paul's hot shooting, Richmond's big night get Illini past Spartans

When this team makes jump shots, it can be really good. And when it plays good defense, it can be great.
The Illinois men's basketball team did both Tuesday. The Illini put on another shooting clinic early, then tightened up the defense late to defeat Michigan State 71-62 at Assembly Hall. Following two straight losses, the win improved No. 23 Illinois to 10-0 at home and 14-5 overall. The Illini are now 4-2 in the Big Ten with No. 1 Ohio State visiting Saturday.
"This was a hard-fought win in a really tough stretch of three rated teams in a row," Illinois coach Bruce Weber said. "We played like a team tonight, we played hard and we played for Illinois. That's why we had success."
