Starting funk

Prior to Monday's practice, Weber delivered a message to the reeling Illini. "He told the guys, 'Come to practice because anyone can start (at Minnesota),'" senior Mike Davis said. "He doesn't know who's going to start." In yet another quest to find an effective mix, Weber used different starting lineups to begin the first and second halves in a loss at Northwestern on Saturday. During a closed-door meeting last week, Weber met with veterans Demetri McCamey and Mike Tisdale to relay a message that, even though they are seniors, their minutes are not guaranteed. There hasn't been a youth movement so far, however. "It's very disappointing that we can't match the energy level of an opponent at the start of games," Weber said.
