March 28, 2011 12:00 AM
Highest seed numbers ever in the Final Four was a combined 22 in 2000. [We have 26 this year]. Amazing.
Only the third time since seeding began in 1979 that not a single No. 1 seed in the Final Four. 1980, 2006 and this year.
Highest seed numbers in a Final Four game: VCU v. Butler (19) 2011; Florida v. George Mason (14) 2006; and UCLA v. Purdue (14) 1980.
NEVER [before] has there been a Final Four without a single No. 1 OR No. 2 seed.
Lowest seed in the title game? No. 8 seed. It has happened twice, UCLA in 1980 and Villanova in 1985. It will be an 8 or an 11 this year.
