As for the circumstances of Richmond's departure, we should understand that we'll never know them all, unless Richmond elects to talk about them and tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Privacy issues prevent the school from addressing some of the rumors...
I think there's a feeling that Richmond wanted to play basketball and in the NBA -- or even playing professionally in Europe -- they let you play basketball without making you attend classes. I think that appealed to him.
If that's part of the deal, he's not the first player to feel that way. When Marcus Liberty left Illinois early, part of his exit was based on the simple truth that he just didn't want to be a student.
