Guenther goes with gut

Guenther, who reports to interim UI Chancellor Robert Easter, indicated he wanted the search for his successor to take place while his boss was still on the job. Easter, charged with making a recommendation to UI President Michael Hogan on a new AD, will step down once his own successor is chosen later this summer.

Guenther said he was confident Easter -- along with the AD search committee -- would have "some sensitivity" to input from athletic department personnel during the search process.

"I really felt the department should participate in the succession plan," Guenther said.
