Ed DeChellis leaves Penn State for Navy
May 23, 2011 4:30 PM
According to a well-placed source within the PSU athletic department, Penn State men's basketball coach Ed DeChellis has accepted the head coaching job at Navy. It's a real shocker but it's true. Press conference at PSU at 7 p.m. this evening.
Salary, according to a dependable source at the U.S. Naval Academy, will be a mere $450,000 per year. DeChellis was making an estimated $650,000 annually at PSU. But not only was he under jeopardy of not being renewed after his contract ran out in 2014 but he clearly believed a sub-par season in 2011-12 would result in his firing. He apparently decided job security was worth a dip in salary.
