Delany's forward thinking leads Big Ten to new frontiers

There's the story of a crucial charge he drew in a NCAA regional final in 1969. The play gave the ball to North Carolina in the waning moments. Charlie Scott hit the game winner that day, but Delaney helped set it up...

Delany would much prefer to talk about the life lessons he learned during that journey than any personal success.

"Playing for Dean Smith meant your minimums were other people's maximums," Delany said in an interview with the Journal Star last week. "Playing hard, playing intelligently were the minimums. There was a lot of internal competition on the team. I learned from that that you get the best outcomes when you have a lot of really good teammates and colleagues. Most of what you do in life is subject to team rules. Leadership is important."
