Illinois lands their first 2013 commitment

James has ideal size for the point guard position and possesses all of the qualities that a high major D1 coach would want in a floor general. He has tremendous court vision and is terrific at pushing the ball up the floor, leading the break and feeding the post. However, the strongest facet of James' game is his defense, as he excels at being able to get into the passing lanes and reek havoc as the result of his long wing span.

What is also somewhat unusual about James' commitment is that he did not officially get offered a scholarship until today. However, the timing of the offer was never really an issue. The bottom line is that James was fond of Illinois and their entire coaching staff from the moment that they began recruiting him. With that in mind, as has so often been the case, a ton of credit must once again go to Illini assistant coach Jerrance Howard, who was the first member of the coaching staff to see Howard play when he watched him in Hope Academy's class 1A sectional championship game vs. state champion Newark back in March.
