New Illini guarded with ankle injury

The Illinois basketball coaching staff finally saw what it expected after the transfer of point guard Sam Maniscalco from Bradley.

During practices while preparing for an exhibition tour to Italy, Maniscalco showed the coaches what he can do.

"He's very crafty," coach Bruce Weber said. "He's got some toughness. He understands the game. I hope he ends up being a very good player for us."
