A.J. Jenkins: "I'm the best receiver in the Big Ten"

"I'm the best receiver in the Big Ten just because I work harder than the receivers out there," he said. "I have the best coach, the best quarterback, the best linemen. And the best sidekick. Having the best things around me makes me the best receiver in the Big Ten."

Zook apparently didn't find Jenkins' preseason boasts of confidence an endearing quality, stating after the game, "A.J. needs to go out and play." Zook was not pleased when Jenkins spun the ball on the ground after his first catch, noting that he is not likely to try again.

A.J. Jenkins' 11 receptions vs Ark St. tied most ever in an #Illini season-opener. David Williams also had 11 in '84 opener vs. Northwestern.
