Volleyball tops Tulsa in thriller for MTSU Invite title

A week after grinding out a five-set victory over Dayton for the State Farm Illini Classic crown, No. 4 Illinois (9-0) repeated the feat over a tough Tulsa (6-4) squad on Saturday night to capture the MTSU Invitational title. The Illini fell behind 2-0, just as they did against the Flyers, but battled back to take the final three sets and win in thrilling fashion. Five different Illini recorded double-digit kills, as the team hit a season-best .396 overall.

"It felt exactly like that match last week," head coach Kevin Hambly said. "Dayton came out and fought harder than us for two sets and Tulsa did the same thing tonight. They just outplayed us from the start, and it took a lot to turn that around because they have a lot of weapons."
