Illinois' double-striped helmets from the 1970s never caught on

As described by Helmet Hut, the helmets featured two "one-inch white rainbow-type side stripes" that paralleled each other and were trimmed in blue. The stripes were still on top of the Illini's traditional orange background with "Illini" in block letters on the side right above the ear hole.
