UI-Penn State notebook: Nothing special

"We just knew we weren't that kind of defense. We feel like we're one of the best defenses in the country and we felt like the way we were playing in the first half (at Purdue), that wasn't us," said defensive end Michael Buchanan, who had seven tackles including a sack. "We just took it upon ourselves for every man to be accountable, every man to do his job."

Penn State's Silas Redd rushed for 137 yards and the rest of the team accounted for minus-16. Penn State's quarterbacks completed 9 of 28 passes for 98 yards.

"It would have been nice to finish out the game the way we held them (at the start). Sometimes it (doesn't) work out that way," said linebacker Trulon Henry, who had seven stops. "I think we can get better and I know my teammates feel the same way. From the outside looking in, it might look like we're playing great defense, but we get in the film room we see some things we can do better."
