Illinois' deal with Ohio's John Groce appears imminent

Illinois fans thought the 2 1/2-week search for a new basketball coach was coming to a close Tuesday as athletic director Mike Thomas and Ohio coach John Groce expressed mutual interest in reaching a deal.

While the hiring process hit a snag Tuesday and added to the ongoing quest, sources said Groce still appears in line to be the man to replace fired coach Bruce Weber. If not Groce, sources said Reggie Theus waits in the wings.
