John Groce reaches out to ex-Illini Jerry Colangelo, Deron Williams

In his effort to meet as many alums of Illinois basketball as possible, new Illini coach John Groce reached out to, among others, 1950s star Jerry Colangelo. Now chairman of USA Basketball, Colangelo reached back with a most generous invitation: To spend a few days around the U.S. senior national team.

"It was a great gesture by him," Groce told Sporting News. "I really appreciated it. He really cares about Illinois, wants Illinois to do well. He's a legendary guy when it comes to our tradition."
