"By no means have we arrived, but we feel blessed to have played for that championship and to have won it."
Based on its results in a difficult early schedule, Gardner-Webb (4-3) is no pushover.
Gardner-Webb opened its season with a 76-59 loss at North Carolina. It beat DePaul 71-59 in Chicago. And after squandering a big lead and losing 65-56 at Iowa, it beat Howard and Austin Peay to claim the Mayan Division championship of the Cancun Challenge.
