Al Seamonson completes Illinois football staff

Illinois football coach Tim Beckman announced Tuesday the hiring of Al Seamonson as outside linebackers coach following coaching stints at Central Florida, Maryland, Bowling Green State, The Citadel, Army and Wisconsin.

The hiring brings a shift of responsibilities on the defensive side of the ball where defensive coordinator Tim Banks will coach the defensive backs, Mike Ward the inside linebackers, Greg Colby the defensive line and Seamonson the outside linebackers, which includes the "LEO" and "Star" positions.

"Al Seamonson brings more outstanding football experience to our coaching staff," Beckman said. "He has worked with some excellent coaches and terrific players during his career. Al is a Big Ten guy at heart, having grown up in Wisconsin and playing football in the conference. He has a great work ethic and has a reputation as an excellent recruiter."
