* The Fighting Illini are coming off an open weekend heading into Saturday's Miami (Ohio) game. It's the first of two byes for Illinois this season, marking just the fourth time in school history that the team has more than one open week in a season. The only other times were in 1989, 2009 and 2010.
* Illinois has played 32 games after a bye in the modern era (since 1985, when bye weeks became commonplace) and is 11-21 in those contests. The Illini have lost 10 straight games coming off a bye, with their last win coming over Indiana (45-14) on Oct. 26, 2002.
