Indiana 103, Illinois 69 POSTGAME

#26
I couldn't watch or listen tonight because I had a prior engagement. Has Groce lost the team?

Complete, utter disorganization on both ends of the floor. Looked like a bunch of guys who never met each other before playing at a Y league game. Went one on one the better part of the game on O and played 5 blind mice on D.

Indy 103 points Illinois 69-

A take you to the wood shed 34 point beating- What the Hell just happened here? Illinois looked tired and out of sync the whole game. The game plan to get Thorne involved failed miserably.

I just don't get it-We have the talent to be playing at a much higher cieling as a unit than where we find ourselves today.

Clearly they can play at a high level on occasion, they did beat a pretty good Purdue team, but i think maybe were overvaluing some of our guys.

Clearly out-classed here tonight but hate to see the boys look so inept in the process. Just doesn't seem like the same team that beat Purdue at all. While I am sure that many are going to blame coaching here, I really think it has to do more with on the floor leadership and the inability to execute. I just don't see this team trying to play consistent team ball. They look pretty good when they do but really awful when things break down.

Good to see big Mike get back tonight. 9 points and 9 rebounds in 16 min. is great for his first game back.

How can one not blame the coach? I do not get it. This has been the team since he started. Hero ball. Guess what. Maybe there was a reason coaches like Henson benched guys for coming into the game and shooting within 15 seconds. Bad. Just bad.

Well in fairness, the Purdue game was the only league game in the Groce era where we shot 50% from the floor. That had a lot to do with it.

When I watch this team, I see no structure. I believe Dakich called it "playing shirts and skins". That is pretty apt.

On defense, nobody stays with their guy. That's been a staple under Groce. Watching Indiana, they play much more simple and efficient. Little to no switches or guys getting lost.

On offense, we dribble, dribble, dribble and then either jack a bad shot or drive into no mans land while the other 4 guys stand and watch.

I get the injuries, but that stuff is coaching. We aren't putting players in a position to succeed. And to me, that is more frustrating than just being out-manned.

Minnesota beach Indiana by 50 in 1994

What was a Bruce Weber coached team's worst loss? I do not recall a beatdown like this?

Very disheartening.

Dakich should not be allowed to call Indiana games. Does he make a comment that does not begin with a "I".

Same problem for the last decade, the other team has much better players than we do.

Good thing Rutgers is in the league, we will not be the worst of the bottom feeders.

Lack of a pg is the real problem on this team , everyone Keyes in on Hill and Nunn and then attacks them they get in foul trouble and then you cruise to a win. It's really not that hard when you lack a third scoring presence and just now getting your Big man back.

The Worse...

I've been following Illinois basketball since the days of "Clean Gene", and I've always tried to be an optimist. But I have to say that is the worse game of basketball I've ever seen Illinois play. Michigan State was bad...this was totally embarrassing.

How do you start four guards and have a team full of wings, and teams shoot threes on us like they are throwing it in the ocean from the beach. IU set a school record for threes. Bad, just bad.

I dont think Tracy would cure what ails this team. Dont forget he's had two serious injuries. We'll be lucky if he's half the player he used to be considering he wasn't an elite athlete to begin with.

This team was good to fine on defense the previous three years, perhaps excepting Purdue2 onwards last year. I think Groce can coach defense just fine...it's a personnel problem here.

All that aside, something is seriously wrong. I think Groce may have lost the team. Too bad, because I really like him as a person and really wanted him to succeed.

Good Night my fellow Illini brothers.

I am going to take my lighter wallet from this game to bed.

Not going to bet one more Illinois game the rest of this year-They are to unpredictable reminds me of the Bears.

Sad, sad, sad effort tonight. I've seen players quit at several points during the last several seasons.

It probably can get worse. We may have passed the tipping point for John Groce.

Jaylon Tate brings nothing to the court. He doesn't even look for his shot when he is in the lane. I really hope TJL is as good as the Illini hype machine is making him out to be. The lack of a good PG is so glaring. Not sure what the rub was on Charlie Moore but even as a SR in high school he would start on this team.

That's what happens when you fill a roster full of wings and no solid PG/C play. You get a lot of good players who look like crap together on the floor.

The poor game plans don't help either.

I don't understand why none of them step up. This happened last year too, when Ray just got sick of it all and put the team on his back over and over again. He was a good enough athlete that he could sort of pull it off. But we don't seem to have anybody on the team with fire in their heart anymore.

Captain of the ship syndrome, you see the ship sinking and all the passengers leaving (top recruits, former friends not coming here) and so all you can do is grit your teeth and accept your fate, go down with the sinking ship. I'm sure when Nunn signed on he thought he'd be getting more help than he's gotten. It's gotta be disheartening for the guy.

There's been games even in the last few years that were on par with this (Michigan senior day 2014, Nebraska 2013, Wisconsin 2013) but this isn't pretty. I think there's a confidence and leadership issue on the team where things start going downhill and it avalanches out of control.

But I do think there will be hell to pay if we lay an egg to Minnesota.

I get what your saying but I wasn't talking about Tracy , a respectable pg in shooting and keeping the defense honest and good D bottom line is we're missing the ones that spurned us while they are some where else knocking of KU , Pitt and other teams.

I was optimistic before the game as I usually am but now I'm wondering why do I even care? When I have kids I don't even know if I'll raise them to be Illini fans and save them the trouble. Jeez that was rough, the state of Illini athletics is pathetic when you consider our potential to be so good. However, we stay loyal to you Illinois...
