Signing Day 2016

Hmm.... Interesting developments by the staff. Kept things together relatively well considering the 2 year contract (death sentence) the administration so short-sightedly afforded Cubit.

Whoever our new AD is, they should come in and extend Cubit to a 4 year contract, with a buy-out so that the staff can actually try and recruit. That, and level our admission requirements with the rest of the NCAA.

Speaking of recruits, are we just so stacked at the RB position that we decided to forego that this year? Any thoughts, all of you recruiting gurus?

:chief:

We brought in Tre Nation who will compliment our RBs nicely.

I think any recruiting between now and the end of season will hold little merit. The staff will likely be let go and a new staff will be in place probably mid-November. The staff staff will get about 10 weeks to sell themselves to recruits, and that will likely be an exciting 10 weeks of recruiting news.

Does not appear to be any signing day de-commits. From the sounds of the Illinois football twitter, it doesn't seem like there are going to be any signing day commits either.

Coach Cubit looks utterly thrilled by this recruiting class. This is definitely meme-worthy.

OK, roster-oligists. How many '17s can we take? (as a baseline, not figuring for attrition)

I've reached the point where I expect everything concerning our athletic program to involve drama, so today is quite a pleasant surprise.

What is the deal with Doug Kramer? Does he sign today, or does he sign next year since he is greyshirting?

Overall I would say that I'm pleased with this class. They've added some speed, size and depth to positions of need. Still a bit thin at the DL, but adding four quality OL gives some flexibility (ie Bain). Another thing that jumps out is a lot of these kids came from winning programs. Not only winning programs, perennial winning programs. To take it a step further programs that win in football states. The kids from Texas, Alabama, Florida and Maryland.

Out of State

The thing that stands out are the players from good football producing states (Texas, Florida, Ga) and pulled some good ones out of Virginia and Maryland.
