From an article on thechampaignroom.com 24 May 2013:

"I'm looking for a school that is going to give me an opportunity to really showcase my skills and let me play on the wing." - Myke Henry

I think the first Paul transfer to Illinois was announced a couple of weeks before this, right about the same time of the team banquet, which iirc, Henry did not attend.

In any case, he had 27 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Providence yesterday.

That's not how I remember it.
What I read is that the staff wanted MH to stay, but he didn't like what he was reading in the tea leaves about his playing time here.
Now, I'm no insider and what I know is what I read here.
You seem to be personally connected, so I openly acknowledge that you may have it exactly right.
But for those less informed, it wasn't thought that he was run off, rather that he was lost with regret.

Haha, not personally connected. When Myke Henry did not attend the year end BB banquet on April 14th yet Darius Paul (before he announced for UI) did attend there were rumors. Somebody tweeted Myke Henry why he was not at the banquet and he responded back that "he was not invited." This started of course speculation. Darius Paul, then committed to Illinois on May 4th and thus put us 1 over the limit, so somebody had to go, right?? Well guess what, Myke Henry was the obvious target and lo n' behold he was gone officially around May 23th. The Groce and internet "company line" was that he didn't want to play the 4 . Bottom line was that when Paul committed somebody had to go and of course Henry seemed the likely target and guess what he was.

Just guessing that MH would have contributed more in his final 3 years @ UI than Darius Paul did. Or that Nic Moore would have contributed more than Tate. And finally Ben Moore would have contributed more than Colbert. All choices Groce had. Ah isn'tMonday morning QBing fun??:)

Thanks for the complete time line. I always figured it was a Henry was allowed to resign thing.

It is fun! Thanks for the reminder on how the MH/DP thing went down. I'd forgotten that. That still haunts us today (even if MH would have been gone.) We're short a scholarship player this year thanks to that choice if I'm not mistaken.

the banquet you reference with DP in attendance. That would have been Brandon's SR Banquet correct?

Ben Moore had an offer and chose SMU over Illinois. Colbert committed after Moore did not.

Ben Moore wanted to come to Illinois in the worst way, but Groce would not take his commitment because he was confident that Colbert was coming. Pretty widely known that Moore was slow played and took the SMU as a sure thing.

This is unfortunately true. Moore would have solved a lot of our offensive woes.

But that's not possible. All of our offers are committable :D

So, this link showed up on my front page of Google News today. Now it's also Groce's fault that the light bulb didn't go off over Myke Henry's head until his senior year? I remember a guy who didn't really play with any fire and was an unreliable jumpshooter. I don't remember the context of his leaving. Did he get creaned?
I generally roll my eyes when a journalist is called out as being biased against us. It's usually our thin skin and that the athletic department has been a growing tire fire for the last however many years.

Having said that, the writingillini stuff stands apart from the rest. It is awful. It's just trolling and not very well done at that.
