I won't agree with your opinion regarding the columnist but the article itself was very good
He's basically a Bear writer. When he ventures off of them, he puts out articles just like this one. He doesn't write a story just to blast the U of I. like some of his colleague's do.

Be careful starting sentences with "Hope Whitman (does such and such) ..." Josh's wife's name is Hope Whitman. So your comment could technically be read to mean that Josh and his wife are bringing a public relations specialist, or that Josh is a public relations specialist who is being brought by his wife.

This is exactly the reason why I will disagree with the hire in the first place. He's starting with a strike against him in the major media markets just by coming from D-III.
I've got patience to see if he proves them wrong and obviously it sounds like Whitman does too. But it's gonna get worse before it gets better. The reputation hits will keep coming, and real or not, in the short term the perception the media creates up here is the reality.
Hope we all have the stomach for the small step change that Whitman described in his letter. That's probably exactly what it will be.
Nobody was going to walk into this job and just be handed credibility. Not Rick George, not anybody.

I mean, this has pretty much been the consensus opinion of this board.
Whitman could be great. I certainly want him to be and am pulling for him. But ideally, as a P5 school, we wouldn't be in a place where we have to be taking such a big gamble.

and exactly what it should be. Last guy made some pretty big leaps in his first year. All that did was piss off and fracture the fan base. Last I knew, how you get out of a hole as deep as what we are in is to take it one step at a time. Trying to jump out of that hole in big leaps usually lands you back at the bottom with a thud.

I wasn't asking for immediate credibility. I was just hoping for someone who wouldn't be flat out dismissed from the start. There's a difference and it sucks that Whitman won't have at least a blank slate to start with.
She's the worst.
