Is it just me, or did that look like the play was drawn to get tate that shot... If so that's a luxury you have with a big lead, calling a play for someone nobody expects, and for good reason

Tate for 3!!!!

Man, I hope the light bulb goes on for him this off-season. I know I am one of few, but he has the potential to be a decent PG if he gains some strength and develops his shot. The quickness and vision are there.

Malcolm took that 3 that time.
that was a nice feet set, off the catch, no defender look. Fletch gets him in the weight room this summer and he may extend that range.

A lot of that goes back to HS...coaches letting them look at the 3 line. Never let our players look at the line. WHen they do we back them up, also emphasize in warm ups to not hang around the 3 line. Get used to shooting well back then when you move in it seems easier. Watching MH over time in shoot around and half time he is always shooting toes on the arc.

For it to be worth it, it would have to be 33% better.

Yes, but numbers don't take account of taking the shot in rhythm or getting it off in time. If the footwork's smooth and the spacing's there for a long 2 the % thing changes versus further moving the feet, with another dribble back to the arc, and the possibility of a quick defender taking away the space. JMO.

I think a full off season with Fletch may do wonders for everyone on the team. Especially if Malcolm can add a little more athleticism, then we are talking about a solid draft pick.

I think Tate's man was headed over to double Malcolm leaving him wide open.
Well, he's rather earned that disrespect as a shooter, but I'm super-glad he made 'em pay for it! Go JT!

I agree. I thought he was doing ok last year but seemed to loose something this year. Maybe due to the hand injury. If he develops a shot it would really allow him to do more play making and passing that he has shown he can do.

The high fives Groce gave to Tate and especially Hill after the play would seem to indicate that was drawn up that way. Luxury: end of half dialing a play for a JT trey. :)

He's passing up open threes to take defenders off the dribble and create space for 17 footers. It's happened three times this game.

I want to reiterate, It's passable because he shoots them at a decent percentage, but it's hardly efficient.

EDIT: There's two examples alone in the gif thread! Passing open 3's to get contested 2's

The light bulb already went on. Jaylon is who we thought he is.

Gotta laugh at Dakich. Rags at JCL in the 1st half for driving the ball after he hit two shots in a row. Then tells Tirico before the 2nd half that Illinois needs to drive the ball more.
