They looked decent for awhile today but then ran out of gas on day 3 vs a fresh opponent. Still, they didn't give up. Go Illini!

I don't know, 2011-12 may have had a couple more wins, but we were healthy, had a couple serviceable pg's, and a lottery pick center.
2011-2012 was definitely worse than this season. I just cried and cried when I saw Leonard faithfully executing BW's game plan of setting high screens and doing just about nothing else of note in the paint.

Glad this season is over. Hoping for next season to have a lack of drama with injuries, suspensions, etc. Then we can finally make a real evaluation of the Groce era. Get Tilmon to join up and make the NCAAs, then we can feel like there's a chance to compete. Short of that, we'll see what Whitman can do.

This is about it. I'm ready for November.

Well, this year was alot like 99-98 for me. It was an off year, from the top down. We have a really good pg coming next year and our hurt guys will be back. It will be a totally different team. All those guys who got tick this year will serve us very well next season. It was painful to watch at times, but we will be rewarded

Best, most succinct post on the subject. After this year's injury debacle, next year is final exam week for JG. Make the NCAAs (and not just squeak in as a bubble team) and firm up a strong 2017 class and he should get a modest contract extension. Fail to do either and JW will be making his next major hire. Hoping for the former, of course. I've talked to JG a couple of times, and he seems like a great guy and a good ambassador for the school and program. Question now is will he be a great B1G-level coach.

Whew. Tough season...should be glad its over, but I'm still gonna miss it for the next several months.

Rest up fellas. Hit the S&C program, stay eligible, do some recruiting. Let's put this one in the rearview mirror and look forward to 2016-2017.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Let's also hope that the Lovie excitement rubs off on the whole athletic program and good news in basketball recruiting continues to build.

KL had his ups and downs but I am very, very thankful that he chose to be an Illini for his 5th year. Without him we would have been a much weaker team, and I liked watching his grit and poise.

+1. Especially frustrating when we saw him play really well in spurts, like the Gonzaga game where he took over and absolutely abused Sachre, who was no slouch himself

We'll be pretty experienced next year so we should have no trouble scoring, with pgs and soph leaps and all that. But Christ almighty we need to learn how to play defense or none of that will matter.

When the guy asks MH what position he would like to play next year, that look on his face just says "man, why would I give you my heartfelt answer on that. I'm gonna give the proper answer". Made me laugh. Good job, MH

Great to see the team fight to the end. Clearly no legs early on in this one. Yes, they've all grown up playing AAU tourneys with 3 games a day - but both teams are in that situation unlike today. Good way to end the season on a positive note. Congratulations for fighting to the end team!

In the Groce post-season interview video (#1 of 2), at the 3:08 mark he's talking about next years team. He remarked that we'll be getting 'those 2 back' (meaning MH & KN), and we'd be getting 'a lot of the young guys back'....
Was that a slip... or was that a hint that he knows not 'all' of the younger guys are coming back? Could it mean that he knows Black won't be on the team?....
What was that all about ?

Probably means he doesn't know about Black. At this point it's out of his hands.

I also noticed in one of the player's interviews (can't remember which one) that the player spoke of getting Tracy back and hopefully Big Mike. No mention LB. Wondered if that was a little bit of an insider slip. No way to know

I wouldn't try to read any tea leaves in any of these interviews.... unless, of course, driving yourself crazy with unfounded worry and rampant speculation is your bag. Then again, that's kind of what we do here... carry on.

Oh for sure.. 'No way to know'.... However, JW was pretty clear that he had a 'low tolerance' for those kind of issues, and that although 18 year-olds make mistakes, that everyone was 'accountable' for their actions...
