Dee's presence in the program wouldn't have made a difference with Black's, Tate's and Nunn's incidents.

I think it is great news. Hopefully pump a little more enthusiasm into the program and have someone that can relate with recruits that is closer to their age and has some basketball viability(NBA, NCAA Championship Game).

This is good news.

If we compare the Cubs old mess to the Illini, Whitman is Theo and Dee is.........?

Not Jed and not Maddon, although he brings the sunny and loose confidence of a Maddon.

I know Dee began his tenure under the previous AD, but I like the direction of this. There has to be some truth to the disconnect voiced by Illinois (specifically Chicago area) coaches and former players.

I don't advocate Dee as part of the coaching team, I think this position gives him more freedom to assist in multiple areas.

Whitman is Tom Ricketts, Lovie is Theo, Dee at this point is just Greg Maddux coming to hang around the pitchers at Spring Training.

Groce is Mike Quade.

I can think of no one else in this world who can sell Illinois basketball better. He's gunna infect some recruits with O&B no doubt.

Now is this a position that will place him on the bench during games or is this strictly an office position? Would be awesome to put him with the team during games.

If not, why not make him the hoops mascot until he can sit with the coaches? Surely, Dee can energize the crowd better than some asinine mascot.

Not a bad idea honestly, Dee Brown is my all time favorite player and his presence with this program just screams excitement.

They just referenced something on the T&J show, but I've heard/seen it alluded to many times before...that many people would like to see Dee replace one of the coaches on the staff, not only because Dee would be a great addition, but because one or more (i don't know how many) of our assistants are not up to snuff...can someone shed some light on this situation for me? Who are they referring to? Without knowing each of their backgrounds to specifically, none of them stand out as being terrible. Is Groce just reluctant to replace them because they've been together for so long?

He is better off schmoozing with alumni and boosters during the game. Dee on the bench is a waste of his time and what's he actually gonna do on the bench? And to want him to be an assistant coach, that's one of the worst jobs in the world. Low pay, on the road all the time, supervising layup drills. 2-3 years at each school gig.

His dream job is to be the head coach at Illinois.. he would take an assistant coaching position on the team in a heartbeat.
