We are a team Purdue thinks they can beat. They will play it like it is the NC game. We'd better come out blazing.

What do WMU and Nebraska and unc have in common?? They will all probaly be ranked this week. Unc just beat FSU on the road and WMU is undefeated and just pillaged CMU.

After Maryland hung 50 on them yesterday I don't expect Purdue to be ranked unless there is a very big mistake made with the rankings, the kind of mistake that gets people fired for cause.

I think Keshawn will get some tick in this one for confidence. I'm of the opinion that the staff used Corbin and Foster cause they are smaller, slipprier guys who can run through holes that aren't there. I think it's more of an idictment on the OL than Keshawn. The line should be able to open some holes in this one, and we can all remember why we were so excited for him in the beginning of the year.

Tailgating

I am bringing 3 Japanese co-workers to their first ever American Football game. Any advice on what to do for tailgating. We are flying in so, I can't pack up the car with cooler, grill, bags ...

Lovie Smith press conference
https://twitter.com/JWernerScout

Lovie: We made progress last week. Simple as that. We're getting better as a football tema. But we have to take bigger steps.

Lovie: Not pleased with how we finished the game. Individuals took steps but we missed an opportunity.

Lovie: Injury wise we're getting better. Concerned about Carroll Phillips.

Lovie: Carroll Phillips does not have a long-term injury

Lovie: If you're a recruit, you're going to compare us to other teams. Facilities is part of the comparison. Can't wait to move in.

Lovie: Used new facility as a recruiting tool since "Day One."

Lovie: I knew there was a commitment to the best possible football program we could have.

Deflects talk to Reggie Crobin as a positive. He and Foster gave us best chance to win

Lovie: Want "better play" out of Ke'Shawn.

Lovie: Crouch is an option. "We thought it gave us something. That hasn't changed."

Lovie: Julian Jones, Tre Watson and Pat Nelson were "pretty good for their first time out."

Lovie: Our defensive line needs to play better than they played last week.

Lovie on Mike Dudek: He's improving daily. Had serious injury. He's getting better. No timeline on return.

Lovie on Dudek: "He's not ready to go."

Lovie: You take every precaution with serious injuries, especially a serious re-injury.

Lovie singles out Nick Allegretti for playing "outstanding football" vs. Nebraska

Advice for Japanese friends

We fly in for the games. The tailgate can be this simple for travelers...

Take them to Cheese and Crackers on Kirby. It's in a small strip mall. Great sandwiches (not Subway or that tripe) on about as good a bread as you can find outside of San Francisco's sourdough.

Buy a one or two six-packs of beverage at the market on the left driving to the campus and just before you go under the train tracks. Put the drinks in a plastic bag with ice. Make that two or three plastic bags - this is no time to be cheap.

If you're really a nice host, take them to the Illini souvenir shop on the other side of the street from the market. Buy them a t-shirt and hat. Make them each wear the hat and the t-shirt. Teach them ILL-INI!!! Get some of them to do "ILL" and the others to do "INI." Have them do that loudly and often!

Go to Grange Grove. Put your stuff next to some folks who promise to watch it. Share some beverage with those people as a bribe. Be really friendly with them. Introduce your Japanese friends. Drink some of the beverage, too. Then open another, and take another with you, and walk around the tailgaters.

Then walk around doing "ILL" "INI" with your Japanese friends. You'll be a hero in two nations - the nation of the rising sun and the Illini nation.

After the game, Kam's and the Red Lion until no one can walk.

It'll be a night you and your international guests will never remember.
