Illinois 88, NC State 74 POSTGAME

Leron has always had a good jumper out to 17 foot. That's his game

If we are relying on his jump shot to win games, we are in trouble.

Black's game is hustle rebounding and put backs around the rim. I cringe every time he shoots from outside 10 feet. Good for him that he shot it really well tonight.

Overall the offense needs to drive more and move the ball more effectively. There are just way too many forced, contested jump shots.

TA's improved awareness to change speeds/jumpstop/ect. while driving to the hoop are doing wonders for him.

No, Leron has a great mid range shot. Dont cringe.

His spot up mid-range jumper is pretty effective and was in high school as well

Quick question. I truly believe that NC State will be a damn good team when they get Yertseven and Rowan. If they have a bad loss, we know that the committee takes into consideration who they were missing in their losses. If they end up being a top 25ish team, does the committee consider it as good of a win for Illinois since they were missing those two players? I would imagine that it'd have to work both ways but I don't know.

Towards the end of year Mr. Newman there are only so many bubble teams. That is why the assclown Joe Lunardi is able to pick 63 out of 64 teams. So for the 8-10 left they can look at quality wins and who is hot at the end of the year. So NCST will likely not be hurt by this lost if they turn things around. They will consider injuries as well both for returning players and players you lose late.

Huh? Black is an excellent midrange shooter. Just because it looks awkward doesn't mean he's bad at shooting the ball.

I don't know what games you've been watching, then. Should we be relying on Leron's mid-range? Not solely, but it's definitely a strength of his game. Always has been

Get used to Leron's mid-range game. It's not the prettiest but the balls going in the hoop and it's not a fluke.

I've had this discussion a few times and my contention is the committee doesn't have the time to go this in depth for every situation. They'd certainly take it under consideration when looking at NC St's resume, but not sure it would impact ours. But if we're on the bubble and it's down to those last few teams, then I could see them digging deep enough to figure it out.

I know the ESPN BPI formula tries to account for injured players, but it's the only rating system that does.

Of course not... Just referencing Diaw's game being described as "old man/YMCA basketball". Sorry if I wasn't clear... My bad. There are many versions of old man basketball. They don't all have to pass the same to be in the same group.

I agree with this. I don't even like passing the ball in after a make let alone anywhere inside half court. :thumb:

I don't think you read my post correctly, or maybe I wasn't clear, I was wondering if our win would still be as good of a win to the committee since they were missing two pretty big players. Regardless it's a top 100 win but I'm hoping it will be a top 50 or top 25 win.

Honest question, as clueless as our coaching staff looked with rotations the past 2.5 games, what turned the light bulb on at half?

The Bear necessity I say. Like others have noted, they are coming in with a set sub rotation and don't appear to be adjusting to game situation. I saw Groce jawing at Ford during halftime. He probably put his foot down and dictated his line-up.

What's the deal with Aaron Jordan? He has become a non-factor. I don't sense that Groce trusts him on the court AT ALL. Seems like a hard worker, but I have to think he may be wearing colors other than orange and blue next year.

Given his mom's comments and his unexplained lack of PT, DJW has Myke Henry written all over him. Slim-to-no chance he stays around for next year, especially given the addition of Tilmon to that front line.

He's also trying to find the right mix early in the season with players he didn't have last year: Lucas, Abrams, Black and Thorne.

who knows. i do think Groce saw this as a must-win. He was fired up all game. You could tell by his reactions to things that it meant a lot to him. He gets the game ball imo. BUT, we still have a huge hill to climb.

Losing Hill, Thorn, and Morgan and only adding 1 forward won't hurt his playing chances though
