I'm not sure where his FT% is at now, but Cordell Pemsel was really bad at the line for a while. I wouldn't mind using up as many fouls as we can give when he touches the ball.

A few quotes from Groce's presser per Werner

Groce: Some people didn't appreciate Egwu. Some did (this guy). He erased a lot of stuff. Have to do that as collective now.

Including bad coaching.

Still talking about a player from 2 years ago as an excuse...really?

Groce: On paper, you assume older and experienced together. The connection part through playing together is lacking.

Hmmm...maybe we'd get that with a more consistent rotation.

Groce: Thorne and Tate playinglike pants are on fire in practice. When you're a senior, you realize the hour glass is sifting.

New cliche.

Our RPI still holding steady at 47 according to ESPN with an SOS of 6. Crazy stuff.

I think this is creating a lot of false optimism. What matters is who did you play and who did you beat. We've played a number of decent teams and here's what matters:

Result / Opp
Loss Winthrop
Loss West Virginia
Loss Florida State
Win VCU
Loss at Maryland
Loss at Indiana
Win Michigan (bubble team)
Loss Maryland
Loss at Purdue
Loss at Michigan

That's a pretty crummy resume, but there are still many games left against projected tournament teams. No doubt we could turn it around. After Iowa, we have 4 games that should be telling - at PSU, Wiscy, Minney, at NW. IMO Wiscy is a near certain loss, and it seems unlikely to me that we can lose two of those and still make the dance. After that stretch, you only have a couple more shots at projected tourney teams.

From a pure numbers standpoint the big problem we have (I think) is that our remaining schedule isn't as strong as who we've played already. Other than Wisconsin and MAYBE MSU we aren't going to get SoS or RPI boosts from most teams. Not compared to WVU, VCU, NCST, FLST.

Of course the other big problem we have is that WE HAVE TO START WINNING GAMES. Keep on loosing and our advanced metrics have no value whatsoever.

I don't see any games on the schedule that we have no chance of winning. Maybe @Northwestern but we always seem to play close there. The rest of our road games are against lower tier Big Ten teams and I think the Wisconsin game could be closer than people think. Being at home makes a huge difference. If we win the next two (which is a big if, @PSU will be tough), that would put us at 4-5 which a lot of people said they'd be happy with after the first 9 games.

Plausible means probable, or more likely than not to occur. I think you are confusing that with possible. Is it possible that Illinois could turn things around and finish .500 or higher in the conference? Heck its possible they could win out and go 13-5. Probable? Nope. As far as road wins go, I think they have lost something like seven conference road games in a row and it took them triple OT to beat Rutgers for the last win away from home. So I don't see them doing much on the road this season.

I've been trying to be an optimist, and just wanted to go 4-4 for the first 8. I just don't think there's enough games left to correct the resume at this point.

The resume really isn't the problem. A 3 game winning streak and the resume looks good. There are plenty of games left to fix the resume. The problem is whether the team is capable of a winning streak.

I don't think this is the sort of thing that gets national traction. We aren't relevant enough for that right now.

I'm aware. This just reeks of pee-wee basketball stuff. It's just sad and pathetic. Crap like this almost makes Beckman look like he was tame.

We'll put lasagna on top of the ladder when we stand it up.

Give it a rest! It is just a couple kids trying to do something positive.

Count me in the pathetic camp too.

We should be doing inspirations stuff with ladders when we make the dance. Then we could use that same ladder to cut down nets. We won't be doing that any time soon.

He was specifically asked about Egwu - so hard to fault him there.

The rest of the presser was FULL of excuses, which is odd coming from a no-excuses guy.

Pretty sure at one point, he said, "Not to make excuses, BUT"... followed by an excuse.

Limiting Tracy's practice time? Is there a physical problem here? That could explain a lot.
