Can someone remind me why we did not go after Chris Collins?

Or, as some have commented, we are up against a pretty darn good team tonight. Plain and simple.

That's not an excuse. The team needs a signature victory. Their NCAA hopes are clearly slipping away. They need to have a sense of urgency and they just don't. No mental toughness combined with poor coaching.

That easy tip in to end the half hurts, 13 points down feels much worse than 11 to me. And it could've easily been 8 or 9 if we could get a damn board.

I cant watch anymore. No movement. No defense. No rebounding. No shooting. No passion. No wins. Someone on the team has to step up emotionally and lead this team into believing again.

If they weren't disciplining JCL, there is no way to explain it.
Maybe giving some firepower off the bench. Pairing Tate w/JCL is probably better than pairing Tate w/Abrams but I am a proponent of playing your best 5.

I feel like DJ told Groce he is transferring at the end of the year. There is no way he gets no tick. Just too good of a talent to sit on the bench.

Maybe DJW is busy adjusting the bunson burner under Groce's seat.

I am a huge college basketball fan. With that being said, I am thankful that there is at least 1 good team in this state, Northwestern. Actually, probably 2 if you count Illinois St because I'm not sure I could deal with Illinois sucking and no other Illinois teams doing well.

As for Illinois, they can't rebound and their scoring droughts are dooming them because they actually played 1/2 way decent defense once they switched to the zone.

See to me that makes it even worse.

AJ came in, put in effort, and after 2-3 minutes, made a mistake. He gone. How about we run one effing play to get him a bleeping shot when he's in? How about we let him play through one bleeping mistake before being yanked? One.

Wouldn't mind seeing Thorne go up against Happ in the second half.

If you are the coach what do you say at half to motivate your team? What do you change, offensively or defensively? As a player do you look to your coach for inspiration, fellow teammates? Just how can your team get back in the game? What do they discuss at half? Does Groce start preparing for his post game why we lost this game speech.

Thought it was telling when they announced the starting lineups and commented that Wisconsin will start the same lineup they have all season.

I've been his biggest proponent... time for a coaching change and fast.

Per bigten.org, the Illini have no players in the top ten for minutes played in the conference (conference games only}

Good point. With Groce's substitution patterns, I do not doubt this.

Agreed. I would have preferred seeing AJ and DJW out there much more. Just shake it up and let some guys plays for a bit to see if they can get into the flow.

50 year Illini supporter, this is close to the worst team I've ever seen. Pre Levi Cobb wasn't pretty either. Time for change

Not for me. I always used to root for SIU and DePaul 12-15 years ago when they were having success. I always enjoyed seeing Illinois teams do well and make the tournament. Then again, Illinois was also doing well at those same times, but I have pride in the state teams doing well. It's important for the state of Illinois to have some kind of representation in the NCAA's. It's been a few years since there was any. We are a good basketball state and I hate seeing Iowa and Indiana have 3-4 schools represented in the tourney and Illinois having none.

Go watch Northwestern. They are a team to be proud of, even for us Illini fans.

I just watched the last possession of the 1st half in slow motion. Lucas got screened by Nichols guy (Koenig bated him into it...slowly dribbled closer to the 3pt line...while Lucas gave him a cushion rather than pressuring Koenig), and because of the cushion he gave Koenig, Lucas decided to go under the screen and due to his distance from Koenig he and Nichols were pretty much forced into switching. Lucas (all 6' of him) was then matched up against a forward...and predictably was unable to box him out....and you guessed it....the Wisconsin forward tipped it in (Wisconsin's fourth offensive rebound that possession). Illinois players getting stuck to screens happens over and over again, and that leads to guys scrambling to catch up with passes, and leads to mismatches...and ultimately wide open shots (part of that is also the defensive pack-line, no-pressuring-the-ball strategy). Groce made himself a millionaire by somehow convincing people he can coach basketball. Thank God Whitman will be making the decision on our next basketball coach.

If that is true its a very immature way for Groce to handle it. The results on the court are not good enough to just bury the kid. Maybe he plays, could have some success, and both parties change their minds.
