I was thinking about our overall Athletics Department the last few days. It has been tough with football and both sides of basketball in recent years, but from my perspective, our non-profit sports have been in very good hands. Whitman started his rebuild at the top with Football and made a big investment with our coaches and future facilities. That decision, paired with non-profit stability bought him a little time. However, with the loss of Hambly, the lack of success of Groce, and the downward spiral of Bollant - Whitman will face a tough Spring.
The time is now to instill that hope and invest into MBB. Good news, we have the facilities already. I would like to see plans for a new practice facility in the next 5 years, but the infrastructure is set up for success right now.
Yes, we still need to find a volleyball coach to build on Hambly's success AND likely find a more serviceable situation for WBB, but hope in our Men's basketball program buys him more time and some room for error there. Gosh I hope he hits a homerun with somebody.
