While I know everyone is not pleased with Groce, I really hope he doesn't get booed Saturday when announced. With Tilmon and Smith in house that will not look good to either one of them.

Looks like Arizona extended Sean Miller through 2022. So any sliver of possibility on that front is gone.

I was thinking about our overall Athletics Department the last few days. It has been tough with football and both sides of basketball in recent years, but from my perspective, our non-profit sports have been in very good hands. Whitman started his rebuild at the top with Football and made a big investment with our coaches and future facilities. That decision, paired with non-profit stability bought him a little time. However, with the loss of Hambly, the lack of success of Groce, and the downward spiral of Bollant - Whitman will face a tough Spring.

The time is now to instill that hope and invest into MBB. Good news, we have the facilities already. I would like to see plans for a new practice facility in the next 5 years, but the infrastructure is set up for success right now.

Yes, we still need to find a volleyball coach to build on Hambly's success AND likely find a more serviceable situation for WBB, but hope in our Men's basketball program buys him more time and some room for error there. Gosh I hope he hits a homerun with somebody.

All I'm saying is I'm getting tired of this incompetence. Weber could coach but couldn't recruit. Groce had one great recruiting class for another school and can't coach a lick. That's basically 10 wasted years of Illini (after Kruger and Self's players were gone) basketball.

Are any of you ready to give another unproven Wunderkind another 5 years to learn how to win in a big time conference? I'm not. :illinois:

At the same time, people expecting JW to pull a Love Smith type of basketball hire out of his a$$ will probably be disappointed.

JW does not have the same kind of connections in basketball as he does football.

Money talks, but only if people are listening.

I think it's simple, make it impossible for Tony Bennett to say no.

And that would be how?
What reason would he want to come to Illinois? Unless you pay him so far and away anything even reasonable, he has no reason to come here. And even then it would be hard to justify for him- he'd have to play it off like it wasn't just money. You people need to be realistic about this. All thes Sean Miller or Tony Bennett people, etc. not happening.

Bennett would want to come and make you a top assistant :thumb:

And to double OT we go between Utah and Cal. With so much riding on this outcome, I wouldn't be surprised to see this game go all night
