Rutgers 62, Illinois 59 POSTGAME

Sanders and Freeman shoot 100%from the line... but 8t shouldn't come to that anyway.

Goodnight John Groce

We now return you to your regularly scheduled coaching change prognostication.

If there was any game that summed up the John Groce era, it was this one. Inconsistent jump shooting, poor offensive rebounding, long shooting droughts, and no movement at all on offense.

I would not be surprised if we go on a run in BTT only to lose and not make tourney

I've always been overly optimistic, to the point many would call me an apologist. But burn it all down now. Zero excuses for that mess

Wow. I think we all knew that beating MSU and then losing to Rutgers would be the most Illinois thing we could do, but it's still hard to digest. I guess it's better than a first four loss and another year of this. I think. I need a drink.

I cant say that I have ever been more disappointed in a loss. We all knew this was possible, was a trap game. Groce had to coach to win here. He failed. We just didn't look prepared, at all.

I can't even describe how frustrated I am with this finish.

what a nightmare. hole stupid game we were tight. We needed to get a timeout with 2 mins left up 2 with the ball and get Lucas in. Defensively when he went out couldn't keep Sanders out of the lane

This one falls on the coach. See everybody next year for a new season with new dreams, new players and a new coach.

Pretty broken up about the fact that Malcolm will never get to play in the tournament.

Make no mistake - that loss is 100% on the coach. Awful final 10 min.

Maybe a high percentage, but when your senior guard misses pretty much & uncontested layup it is not a 100%. Not to mention other easy attempts like Kippers uncontested dunk. Not 100%.

He actively took us out of position to win. Ball was moving and it stopped. Him telling them to go late clock ISO is the only explanation. Don't let him on the plane.
