2017 Illini Tennis

Losing the doubles point every match is really starting to get old. Needing to win 4 of 6 singles matches with a young group is asking a bunch.

We have a really, really solid singles lineup, but I agree. It's definitely something that would go a long way for us if we could get it figured out, although I don't think it's crippling. We do need to figure it out to knock off OSU, etc though.

I agree with this. With the individual talent they have you wouldn't think it would be that tough to find a little chemistry between a few of those guys enough to where they could at least be competitive in doubles. It seems to be the one major weakness under Dancer since he took over from Tiley.

Illini had a match point to take the doubles point vs Northwestern but didn't get it done. The singles dominance over Wildcats was nice especially after the Purdue loss.

We need to make sure we get all other conference matches before OSU. Buckeyes added JJ Wolf this spring (he graduated high school early) and have him at #2. Wolf has been consistently rated 2/3 in the nation for class of 2017. IHSA 4-time state medalist is still at #6 for Buckeyes. They may be national title ready.

Maybe taking a red shirt? Could be an injury. If it's voluntary that will be interesting because Dancer is bringing in another large recruiting class with a couple of blue chip guys next fall.

I'm not sure any newcomers except Alexander Brown see significant dual match court time with just Julian and Alex (doubles) using up eligibility. I know Vukic would like to try the professional route but I think (hope) he's back for senior year.

And I always forget we are playing minus the injured Jiang right now.

Illini back in action tomorrow vs. TCU in Fort Worth. First match after an unusually long break.

Just noticed that Asher is no longer listed on roster on fightingillini.com.

Aleks Vukic on an 11 match win streak. Beat the #3, #13 and #15 ranked players on the road this past weekend. Has one loss this year.

Illini continue 3-game road losing streak with loss at Minnesota for 4th straight loss.

Took the doubles point but Vukic is the only one who finished in 2 sets. All other 5 matches went 3 sets with Illini dropping 4 of them.

This is starting to look a lot like the 21-year NCAA tourney streak will be stopped this year.

Win doubles and 5 of 6 first sets in singles. I know, playing 4 freshmen and Hiltzik is out, but that's a tough one to lose. If Aron is back soon they should still make the NCAAs, certainly will be on the road though.
