Lamphier 82 Champaign Central 59

CC actually led the game by 3 at halftime.
Yaakema Rose led Springfield Lanphier with 34 points. Teammate Aundrae Williams had 25 points. Also in double figure was Cardell McGee with 12 points. The leading scorers for Champaign Central were A'Kieon Gill and Tim Finke both with 15 points each.

Just heard from the grapevine that when Smith visited NW he didn't like/enjoy it near as much as he thought. I haven't followed too closely here of late, but just form hearing this I doubt they are going to be serious players in this.

Most places, even if you can't get to Peoria, great idea to set the DVR -- usually some good games / good players and doesn't take too much time to watch.

Sorry -- got to pull against St. Anthony.... to many high school memories...

Watched about a half of the Mt. Carmel game and they did look pretty good. Also watched the Rockford Christian - Bishop McNamara game. McNamara won in 2 OT. Watched just the end of Monticello- Quincy Notre Dame. With Notre Dame losing, I don't see any of those teams coming close to Chicago Orr. Their only losses have come to 4-A teams Whitney Young (twice), St. Louis Vashon, Chicago St. Patrick and Curie (by 1 point -- Curie was upset last night by Oak Park-River Forest). Kids to watch on Orr are Raekwon Drake, Dannie Smith and Tyrone Mosely. Rick Telander at the Sun-Times did a 5 part story on Orr and their season and the atmosphere they have to play in. First part is here and the other 4 parts are listed at the bottom. It's award winning stuff.

In 1A, Chicago Hope Academy looked awesome last night and I would have to think they are the favorites in that class. Jordan Doss and Ajani Parker would start on any 4A team except the Chicago elite. (Although Newark, Okawville, Effingham St. Anthony are also ranked in the top 10.)
In fact, this could be the first year Chicago gets all 4 first place trophies, Morgan Park is favored in 3A and 4A may come down to whoever wins the Normal Super-Sectional if Simeon and Edwardsville make it there or if only one of them does. (Although Bolingbrook vs either of those 2 teams would also be a great game. They'll play one of the two Joliet teams Friday night in what should be another barn-burner.) Edwardsville has to beat Danville Friday night and Simeon has to beat Thornton and Verge or Brother Rice with Josh Niego and Mike Shepski, both doable. Watched a bit of Simeon-Marist last night, but that game was over before the end of the first quarter. If Simeon plays like they have so far in the CPS and State Tourneys, Simeon-Edwardsville will be the game of the year so far, and all the Supers are on NFHS. You have to pay, but I figure I got my money's worth just watching all the games last night. Last year I just paid for the Supers and felt it was a great buy.

no clue.

I'll add, going to the games I do, and talking to other high school junkies, Smith's name has never come up. We're probably too far north for rumors or 'inside info' to travel that far.

It will be Thornton-Simeon for Sectional title Friday night. Alonzo Verge w/ 24 & Orlando Allen w/ 23 in 64-58 win. Mike Shepski w/ 25

Another fantastic game by Alonzo V. Jumper was off, so he got to the basket at will, made fantastic passes and 4 or 5 steals, one where he became a human corkscrew and intercepted a pass over his head, and one with 10 seconds left and Thornton up by only 2 against a 3 point shooting team. Simeon vs Thornton should be a good one. Verge and Gilyard, Meanstreet teammates going against each other. Think Gilyard has too many additional weapons.

I have seen Mt. Carmel 4 times. They have a nice team. They are in a good basketball conference comprised of 7 Indiana schools and Mt. Carmel. I think they have the smallest enrollment in the conference. Marcotte and Carpenter are a nice 1-2 punch. However, 6'3" sophomore Austin Rager is a player to watch. He generally defers to the other 2 players. He is very athletic and has some very good basketball skills. Orr is probably the odds on favorite, but sometimes the favorite falls when playing at Peoria.

Do you know if any of the sectional title games Friday will be on NFHS or anywhere else?

So far, the only sectional final NFHS and the ihsa have listed is Simeon-Thornton. But they may list more before Friday night.
http://www.ihsa.org/SportsActivitie...rmationResults.aspx?url=/data/scores/bkb4.htm

They've already listed three 3A and three 4A super sectionals, including the 4As at Normal, DeKalb and Sears Center and the 3As at Joliet, DeKalb and Sears Center. Last year they had all 4 of each class so I'm hoping they add the other 2 although Normal and DeKalb are the ones I'd spend most time watching. Not sure if you'll be able to see this or if I'm only getting it because I've paid the subscription. But this is the schedule as of now:

if not, this might work:

Thanks, I decided to pay up and get the subscription for this month. Ready to watch some good basketball! And thanks for linking that article on Orr, I'm definitely rooting for them now. A championship trophy is nothing compared to what they have to go through every day, but they deserve it.

2017 Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year: Thornton’s Alonzo Verge http://www.suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2017/03/09/2017-chicago-sun-times-player-year-thorntons-alonzo-verge/ …

There is one college that Verge always seems to mention: Illinois.
“I always wanted to get out of Chicago,” Verge said. “I wanted to explore different things. I know people that only know one corner and they’ve never been off that corner.
If I did have a chance to go to Illinois I would make that move, that would be a good move to make.”

Verge always seemed to glow when he mentioned Illinois among his offers. Shame that off-court issues will keep him from playing here (at least for now).

Looking at that list of POY's, it's amazing how far Chicago basketball has fallen in the last few years, from Jabari and Jahlil in 13/14 to Charlie Moore and Verge in 16/17.

If he qualifies and we lose out on Smith we should definitely take him. Serious talent. If he goes the JUCO route, I hope he gets his academics in order and ends up here.

I don't think there is any chance he qualifies unless he gets the ole Eric Bledsoe Transcript treatment.

If a player transfers to a school, sits out a year, then transfers again to another school, is he eligible to play immediately or does he have to sit out again?
